I was born in Sydney, Australia, but grew up at the beach on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, and studied naval architecture in Sydney. I have for many years been interested in drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture – and of course in boats, and sailing and rowing.
Almost every year since 1999 I have gone to summer courses in acrylic and watercolour painting, drawing, printmaking, writing and digital photography and pottery/ceramics at Kunsthøjskolen, Holbæk, Danmark http://www.kunsthojskolen.dk, also a workshop in reduction lino printing at Valamo in Finland http://www.valamo.fi/valamon-opisto. And another ceramics course on Bornholm.
My excellent, inspiring and quite famous teachers have included Jens Erik Jensen (painting, DK), Peter Land (painting, DK), Julia Farrer (printmaking, UK), Nina Malinovsky (writing, DK), Jeanette Schou Land (photo, DK), Helen Clarke (reduction lino printing, AUS) and Alikka Garder Petersen (ceramics).
Mostly, painting and printmaking, ceramics, taking photos, is for my own creative pleasure. The artistic expression "kill your darlings" doesn't quite work for me, and quite simply selling them is not always easy. But almost everything has a price, large or mostly small. And it feels better if someone else also like them. Commissions are possible, loosely based on your photos or ideas.
